Bollywood musical thriller, Dil Se, directed by Mani Ratnam was released on August 2, 1998. The movie starred Shahrukh Khan and Manisha Koirala in lead roles while Raghuveer Yadav, Piyush Mishra, Zohra Sehgal, Malaika Arora, Preity Zinta, Rahat Ali, Sheeba Chaddha and Sanjay Mishra also played significant characters in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was directed by the oscar winner music director A. R. Rehman while the songs were beautifully crooned by Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Sukhwinder Singh, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Mahalaxmi etc.

Young and handsome, Aman Verma ( Shahrukh Khan ) is a Radio journalist by profession. He is assigned a tough task by his boss. He is asked to visit the northern most place of India and to make a special report on the condition of the place. He arrives there but soon realizes that the people living there are planning a movement to seperate from India. He somehow manage to take the interview of the leader of the whole village. While returning to his home, he come across a beautifulg ril named Meghna ( Manisha Koirala ). He instantly get attracted towards her and tries to follow her. But she folls him and disappears from there.

Aman then once again encountered with her but this time he is brutally beaten up by her brothers. Aman returns to his city but fails to forget about the girl. He arrives in his house and starts living his normal life alongwith his parents. His marriage is arranged with a beautiful girl named Preity ( Preity Zinta ). He gives his nod to the marriage. Just few days before his marriage, Aman get surprised to see Meghna at his doorstep. She asks him to let her stay in his house for few days to which he agrees. But little does Aman knows is that Meghna is actually a terorrist.
