Bollywood movie, Disco Dancer, directed by Babbar Subhash and written by Balraj Deepak was released on December 10, 1983. The movie starred Mithun Chakraborty and Kim in lead roles while Om Puri, Kalpana Iyer, Gita Siddharth, Yusuf Khan, Master Chotu, Amarnath Mukherjee, Beena and Jankidas also played important roles in the film. The melodious hit music of the film was given by the well known music director Bappi Lahiri while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Bappi Lahiri, Usha Mangeshkar, Usha Uthap, Parvati Khan etc. The movie was a super duper hit of that year and its songs also topped the music charts for a long time.

The movie starts with Anil ( Mithun Chakraborty ), whose mother has been imprisoned by police in the wrong case under the influence of a wealthy person named P. N. Oberoi ( Om Shivpuri ). When his mother is released from the prison, the two decides to leave the city. Anil is passionate about singing and dancing and wants to make a career in this. He wants to be a famous and rich person. Years later he returns to the city and is promoted as a singer by David Brown ( Om Puri ). David also has his name changed to Jimmy. Jimmy recieves success in the singing and dancing field and soon becomes a famous personality.

Jimmy falls in love with Oberoi’s daughter Rita Oberori ( Kim ). Oberoi’s son, Sam Oberoi ( Karan Razdan ) has a nervous breakdown because of the success of Jimmy. P. N. Oberoi decides to do something bad with Jimmy and accidently kills his mother. Jimmy gets devasted with his mother’s death and decides to leave his profession. But everyone wants him to sing and dance again including his girlfriend. Will he able to sing again or not?
