The musical drama Ek Rishtaa - The Bond of Love was released on May 18, 2001 under the banner of Shree Krishna International. The movie was directed and produced by Suneel Darshan. The lead roles in the movie were enacted by Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Karisma Kapoor and Rakhee while Juhi Chawla and Mohnish Behl also played interesting roles. Music of the film was directed by Nadeem-Shravan and the songs were sung by Mohammad Aziz, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Sarika Kapoor and Anuradha Paudwal.

Ek Rishtaa - The Bond of Love was Suneel Darshan’s next film after the so-so response to his movie Jaanwar. The theme of the movie is about relationships and how they changes with time. The movie revolves around a great businessman Vijay Kapoor ( Amitabh Bachchan ) who loves his wife Pratima ( Raakhee ) very much. The couple has three daughters Rani, Priya and Priti ( Juhi Chawla ). Priti is the eldest and most liked by her father. They also have a son Ajay ( Akshay Kumar ) who is studying abroad to gain his masters in Information Technology.

Vijay has a fan in Rajesh Purohit ( Mohnish Bahl ), an aspiring business graduate who likes him more because of his qualities and abilities. Priti started liking Rajesh and Vijay had no problems with this. The problems arise when Ajay wanted to start his own business. But Vijay advised him to gain some experience before starting a new business, through his family business. Differences started arising when they started working together and they called it as a generation gap between the two.
