The war thriller Escape From Taliban was released on February 14, 2003. The movie was directed by Ujjwal Chatterjee and produced by Ashok Khemka. The top roles in the movie were played by Manisha Koirala, Nawab Shah, Prithvi Zutshi and Aly Khan while Benika Deepak and Asha Sharma were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Vanraj Bhatia and the songs were sung by Babul Supriyo, Sadhana Sargam, Sonu Nigam, Amit Nagarkar, Asha Bhosle and Sunidhi Chauhan.

Taliban Rule in Afghanistan has always attracted the attention of the Bollywood film makers and one can see the rise in number of films on this topic especially after the 9/11 attack on United States. Ujjal Chaterjee´s Escape From Taliban is one of the first feature-length films that showcases the story linked with the Taliban rule. The story of the movie revolves around an Indian Hindu woman Sushmita Bannerjee ( Manisha Koirala ) who is married to Muslim Afghani man Jaanbaaz Khan ( Nawab Khan ) who is debuting with this film.

Sushmita ran to Afghanistan with Jaanbaaz to escape the wrath of her family. She soon comes to know about the sorry state of woman in her husband’s country. Unable to cope up with everyone there she again tried to escape from there and return to India. Under the rule of the Taliban, Sushmita’s individuality and spirits are crushed as she is forced to be obedient and timid. Initially she was ready to spend time with him but when she came to know that her husband also treated her as a commodity, her world came to a standstill.
