Bollywood blockbuster movie, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, directed by Anil Sharma was released on 15 June 2001. The movie starred Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel in lead roles while Amrish Puri, Lillette Dubey and Vivek Shauq also played significant roles in the film. The movie was distributed under the banner of Zee Network. The superhit music of the film was given by Uttam Singh and the songs were sung by Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Ajay Chakraborty, Preeti Uttam etc. The movie was well recieved by audiences as well as by critics and became one of the biggest hit of that year.

The movie starts with Tara Singh ( Sunny Deol ), who is a Sikh truck driver and Sakina ( Amisha Patel ), a high society educated Muslim girl. Sakina and her family are forced to migrate to Pakistan because of the conflicts between Hindus and Muslims. But to her misfortune, she get separated from her family at the railway station. There she meets Tara Singh, who saves her from some Hindu persons who attempts to kill her. Tara in order to save her from the rifts brings her at his own home. With the passage of time, Sakina starts loving Tara’s simplicity and cuteness.

One day she finds a dairy which reveals that Tara loves her from the days of her college. When Tara arranges all things to send her to Pakistan, she finally expresses her love to Tara and expresses her desire to marry him. The two get happily married and have a son. One day Sakina comes to know that her family is still alive. Sakina contacts her family in Pakistan. Her father, who is now the mayor of Lahore, ask her to visit Pakistan. But Sakina is not known to the cruel intentions of her father, who wants her to forget about Tara and starts living a new luxuries life in Pakistan. Then Tara decides to cross the border through illegal means to bring back his wife Sakina from Pakistan.
