The action crime drama Ganga Jamuna Sarswati was released on December 29, 1988. The movie was directed by Manmohan Desai and was produced by Ramnathan. The key roles in the movie were enacted by Amitabh Bachchan, Meenakshi, Jaya Prada and Mithun Chakraborty while Amrish Puri, Nirupa Roy, Bharat Bhushan, Jack Gaud and Goga Kapoor were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Anu Malik while the songs were sung by Sadhana Sargam, Mohammad Aziz, Kishore Kumar, Pankaj Udhas, Suresh Wadkar and Lata Mangeshkar.

The title of the movie Ganga Jamuna Sarswati comes from the religious rivers in India. Ganga, Jamuna and Sarswati are three holy rivers and their merger is known as Sangam. This thing was also shown by the characters of the film who desire to meet and love each other. The story of the movie revolves around two characters Ganga Prasad ( Amitabh Bachchan ) and Jamuna ( Meenakshi ). Ganga Jamuna begins to love each other and pledge to become one.

The twist in Ganga and Jamuna’s love story was that Saraswathi ( Jaya Prada ) also loved Ganga silently and has already dedicated her entire life to him. Also there are many people in the town who wanted to separate the lovers, like Thakur Hansraj Singh ( Amrish Puri ) who didn’t like their relationship. As a result Jamuna separates from Ganga. Jamuna reaches Shanker’s ( Mithun Chakraborty ) home, who already loved her. In the meantime Saraswathi was about to come closer to Ganga but the movie was full of twists.
