Bollywood movie, Ganga Ki Saugandh, directed by Sultan Ahmed and written by Asgar Mirza was released on February 7, 1978. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in lead roles while Farida Jalal, Amjad Khan, Anwar Hussain, Jeevan, I. S. Johar, Jagdeep and Bindu also played important roles in the film. The hit evergreen msuic of the movie was directed by the veteran music director duo Kalyanji-Anandji while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar Ganguly, Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle.

The movie starts with a region ruled by a cruel man named Thakur Jaswant Singh ( Amjad Khan ). He is terror in the region and no one dare to stand against him at all. Jaswant is a abig alcoholic and womenizer. One day he is accidently hurted by a old women named Ramvati and he starts beating her badly. Then her young son, Jeeva ( Amitabh Bachchan ) intereferes in it and as a result comes on the gun point of Jaswant. But Jaswant’s mother somehow manage to stop Jaswant from shooting him down.

But Jeeva makes his presence in the bad books of the Jaswant. He makes a plan against Jeeva and involves him in the death case of a cow. jeeva fails to prove himself innocent and is therefore asked to leave the village immediately. However, Jeeva refuse to dos o. He is severely beated by the villagers and in this shock his mother passes away. Jeeva learns about Jaswant’s involvment in this plan and decides to avage the death of her mother from Jaswant.
