The action and family drama Giraftaar was released on September 13, 1985. The movie was directed by Prayagraj while it was produced by S Ramanathan, Anand, Narayan and Suresh. The actors in the lead roles were Kamal Hassan, Madhvi, Poonam and Amitabh Bachchan while the supporting roles were played by Rajinikanth, Ranjeet, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Sharat Saxena, Jeevan and Nirupa Roy. The music of the film was directed by Anil Mohile while the songs were sung by Bappi Lahiri, Shabbir Kumar, Asha Bhosle and Mohammad Aziz.

The famous movie Giraftaar was a good family drama that was appreciated by most of the people. The story of the movie revolved mostly around a man named Kishan Kumar Khanna ( Kamal Hassan ) who is in fact an underpaid but over burdened film actor. He was engaged in some bad activities and one day was framed with the charge of murder. He was imprisoned and found his long lost brother Karan ( Amitabh Bachchan ) who was a police officer but was also framed with the charge of murder.

Both the brothers talked it out in the jail and found that both were framed in illegal case by the same gang of gangsters. Thus both helped each other in the prison so that they can escape from there and take revenge from the culprits. Karan was charged with the murder of son of Police Commissioner, Vijay Sinha ( Sharat Saxena ) whereas Kishan was charged with killing a woman by the name of Lucy ( Rabia Ameen ).
