Bollywood comedy movie, Golmaal, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee was released in the year 1979. The movie starred Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt and Bindiya Goswami in lead roles while Deven Verma, Dina Pathak and Om Prakash also played important roles in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by R.D. Burman while the songs were sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar, Bhupinder Singh etc. Amitabh Bachchan was also seen in a guest appearance in the film. The movie bagged several Filmfare awards that year inlcuding Best Actor Award and Best Comedian Award for Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt respectively.

The movie starts with a fun loving unemployed guy, Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma ( Amol Palekar ). He is looking out for a good joband therefore seeks employment at Bhavani Shankar’s ( Utpal Dutt ) firm. Bhavani Shankar is a very strict person, who has a fascination for Indian culture. He thinks that a moustache represents man’s conscience. Ramprasad tries to fits his values. He display himself as a person who strongly believes in Indian cultrues by wearing an excessively short kurta pajama. But the problem begins when he takes leave by saying that his mother ( who is not alive ) is ill at home.

Actually he was planned to watch a hockey match with his friends and therefore he does the whole drama for taking leave. Unfortunately Bhavani Shankar too attends the match and sees Ramprasad there. Next day, Bhavani asks him about the hockey match to which Ram pretends that Bhavani had seen his identical twin Lakshmanprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma aka Lucky at the stadium and not him. Bhavani offers him a job for Lucky. He wants Lucky to teach music to his daughter Urmila ( Bindiya Goswami ). Now for saving his job, Rampasad starts the double role game and in that he gets the help of his actor friend Deven ( Deven Verma ).
