Yesteryear hit classic movie, Goonj Uthi Sehnai, directed by Vijay Bhatt was released in the year 1959. The movie starred Rajendra Kumar and Ameeta in lead roles while Leela Mishra, Anita Guha, I. S. Johar, Prem Dhawan, Lalit Kumar, Krishna Kumari and Pratap Kumar also played important roles in the film. The hit evergreen music of the movie was composed by the veteran music director Vasant Desai while the songs were beautifully rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Geeta Dutt etc.

Kishen ( Rajednra Kumar ) is in love with Gopi ( Ameeta ) and is planning to get married with her. Kishen is the master of playing clarinet ( Sehnai ) and Gopi used to dance on the tunes of Kishen’s clarinet. But Gopi’s mother is against of their relationship as she wants Gopi to get amrried with someone who is well settled in his life. She wants Gopi to get married with Shekhar ( Pratap Kumar ), who lives in Lucknow. On the otherhand, Kishen’s guru, Raghunath Maharaj ( Ulhas ) also wants him to get married with his daughter, Ramkali ( Anita Guha ). Kishen finally decides to get married with Ramkali.

But despite being a married man now, Kishen continue to meet Gopi. Villagers ask Kishen to leave the village as they think the meeting between Kishen and Gopi will bring shame to the village. Kishen then relocate in Lucknow where he meets with Shekhar. Shekhar befriends him and provide him a job in the the same place where he works. Kishen takes Clarinet playing as profession and soon becomes a famous and rich guy. He then decides to get married to Gopi but get shocked to learn that Shekhar is the guy with whom Gopi is engaged now.
