The action crime movie Goonj was released in the year of 1989. The movie was directed by Jalal Aga and produced by Joy Augustine. The significant roles in the movie were played by Kumar Gaurav, Mohan Kothari, Juhi Chawla and Tinu Anand while the presence of Amin Karim, Mohan Kotwan, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Amin Hajee, Sulbha Arya, Agha and Rajan supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Biddu.

The movie Goonj was an action cum crime movie which starts with showcasing the political activity heating up in the coastal city of Goa, India when it was election time in the country. There were two candidates in the city who wanted to prove their mettle. One was MLA Kalekar ( Mohan Kothari ) representing the majority of the local-speaking population, and the other was, Dennis Pereira, for the local minority-speaking population.

Both the politicians wanted to prove that they can govern the city well and better than the other and they can do this at any cost. They will not leave any stone unturned in the city to ensure their win. There were some local college students also in the elections including Peter ( Joy Augustine ) and Sangeeta Kalekar ( Juhi Chawla ). Sangeeta was loved by Peter secretly and also by Sanjeev Kamat ( Kumar Gaurav ) who is their common friend and that too secretly. Sangeeta is the daughter of local MLA Kalekar.
