Bollywood romantic family drama, Gumrah, directed by B. R. Chopra and written by Akhtar-Ul-Iman was released in the year 1963. The movie starred Sunil Dutt and Mala Sinha in lead roles while Deven Verma, Ashok Kumar, Shashikala, Nirupa roy and Nana Palsiker also played important characters in the film. The melodious evergreen music of the movie was composed by the veteran well known music director Ravi while the songs were rendered by Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle.

The movie starts with young and Beautiful Meena ( Mala Sinha ), who lives alongwith her father. Her elder sister, Kamla ( Nirupa Roy ) is married to a famous Barrister Ashok ( Ashok Kumar ) and they have two children. Kamla arrives to his father house for spending sometime with them. There she revelas that Meena is in love with a guy named Rajendra ( Sunil Dutt ), who is a painter and singer by profession. Kamla approves Rajendra and wants the two love birds to get married soon. She decides to talk with her father about their relationship.

But unfortunately before that could happen Kamla meets with an accident and passes away. Now situation change suddenly when Meena’s father arranges the marraige of Meena and Ashok so that Kamla’s child does not get bad treatment from their step mother. Soon Meena get married to Ashok. A year later, Rajendra once again enters in the life of Meena. They once again starts romancing each other. But things gets complicated when Meena reveals that Rajendra is married to a women named Leela.
