Songs of Haathi Mere Saathi


Bollywood yesteryear hit movie, Haathi Mere Saathi, directed by M. A. Thirumugham and written by Javed Akhtar was released in the year 1971. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja in lead roles while Sujit Kumar, Madan Puri, David Abraham, Mehmodd Junior, Abhi Bhattacharya and K. N. Singh also played important roles in the film. The melodious everegreen music of the movie was directed by the veteran music director duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi etc.

The movie starts with an orphan named Raj Kumar aka Raju ( Rajesh Khanna ), who earns his living by performing with four elephants. He performs hard work and soon becomes the owner of a private zoo. The four elephants are still with him and treats them and the other animals of the zoo as his friends. He then meets with a beautiful girl named Tanuja aka Tanu ( Tanuja ) and falls in love with her. Tanuja’s father, Ratanlal ( Madan Puri ) intially refuses to give his permission for the marraige of Raju and Tanu but subsequently relents and give his permission.

Soon they both get married with each other. They starts living a happy life. But after few days of the marriage, Tanu starts confronting Raju on the issue that he spends more time with his animals friends. This everyday fight causes bitterness in the realtionship of Raju and Tanu. But still they never think of breaking their marraige. Things gets even worse when Tanu gives brith to a child and fears that he will be harmed by the animals friends of Raju.
