Hathkadi was a thriller family drama that was released on January 15, 1982 under the banner of Vishal Deep International. The movie was directed by Suerndra Mohan and produced by Pahlaj Nihalani. The top roles in the movie were played by Sanjeev Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Reena Roy and Ranjeet while the roles of Prem Chopra, Mazhar Khan, Ranjeeta, Dev Kumar, Rakesh Roshan and Ramesh Deo were equally important. The music of the film was directed by Bappi Lahiri while the songs were sung by Shobha Gauri, Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar.

Hathkadi was a thriller cum family flick that revolved mostly around a man named Harimohan ( Sanjeev Kumar ) who lived a comfortable life with his family consisting of his wife named Shanta ( Seema Deo ), and a his young son named, Sunil. The problems in the story started arising when he finds that the person with whom he worked wanted to have sex with his wife Shanta. The boss ( Madan Puri ) makes a plan to do what he wanted to do an thus decides to send Harimohan out of town.

While Harimohan was on his business trip, his boss comes his home and tries to molest his wife but due to the bad weather, Harimohan returns home only to save his wife from getting raped. This starts a fight between the two in which the boss gets killed accidentally. Harimohan tries to save his boss and takes him to a hospital in his car but it meets with an accident in which it was believed that Harimohan was killed. Shanta started living a widower’s life.
