Bollywood family drama, Hifazat, directed by Prayag Raj and written by Kadar Khan was released on September 18, 1987. The movie starred Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles while Ashok Kumar, Shakti Kapoor, Nutan Behl, Sharat Saxena, Vikas Anand, Kadar Khan, Lalita Powar, Bindu, Pran and Shubha Khote also played significant characters in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was directed by none other than well known music director Rahul Dev Burman while the songs were crooned by S. P. Balasubramaniam, Mohammed Aziz, Suresh Wadkar and Anuradha Paudwal.

The movie starts with a family headed by Satyaprakash ( Pran ). The family comprises of his wife, Laxmi ( Nutan ) and his mother. Laxmi is unable to give birth to any child and therefore Satyaprakash is forced to get married for the second time. Satyaprakash then get married to Rukmani ( Bindu ). But just after their marraige, Laxmi gets pregnant and gives birth to a son, Rajkumar ( Anil Kapoor ). Later, Rukmani also gives birth to a child and name him Lakhan ( Shakti Kapoor ). But unfortunately, Rajkumar is abducted by someone. Then Satyapraksh is arrested by police in the charge of a murder. He is sentenced to rpison for a long time.

Rukmani starts ruling over the house and ends up making Laxmi just a maid in the house. Years later, a young guy enters in the house and claims that he is the long lost son of Laxmi. He starts living there as the son of Laxmi and Satyaprakash. But problem arises for him when Satyaprakash is released from the prison. He is identified by Satyaprakash as his jail inmate. He is then thrown out of the house. But little does Satyaprakash knows is that the guy claiming to be his on is actually his real son.
