The social movie Jaanwar was released on December 23, 1999. The movie was directed and produced by Suneel Darshan. The top roles in the movie were enacted by Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty, Karisma Kapoor and Mohnish Behl while the roles of Ashutosh Rana and Aashish Vidyarthi were equally important. The music of the film was directed by Anand-Milind and the songs were sung by Alka Yagnik, Sapna Awasthi, Sonu Nigam, Ram Shankar, Manhar Udhas, Jaspinder Narula and Sukhwinder Singh.

Jaanwar was directed by the famopus director Suneel Darshan and featured Akshay Kumar in the lead. The movie was believed to revive the slagging career of him after the not so hit movie of his Sangharsh. The theme of the movie is about a child who changes a criminal into a good human being. The movie starts when Baadshah ( Akshay Kumar ) was a kid and was picked up by a criminal Sultaan ( Shakti Kapoor ). He transforms the kid into a hardcore criminal who has no emotions for anyone.

One day Baadshah come across Sapna ( Karisma Kapoor ) who is a dancer. He was smitten by her beauty and wanted to marry her. But on his wedding day, Baadshah gets engaged in a fight with one of his enemies and thus was not able to make it to the temple where he was supposed to get married. He also finds a boy lying alone somewhere whom he took along to change his way of life. When the boy ( Aditya Kapadia ) was 8 years old, his parents ( Mohinsh Behl and Shilpa Shetty ) come to take him along.
