The musical social drama Jagruti was released on July 3, 1992. The movie was directed by Suresh Krissna and produced by S R Shetty. The major roles in the movie were played by Salman Khan, Ashok Saraf, Karisma Kapoor and Prem Chopra while Javed Khan, Raza Murad and Aparajita were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Anand Chitragupt and Milind Chitragupt while the songs were sung by Abhijeet, Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Krishnamurthy, S.P.Balasubramaniam, Amit Kumar and Jolly Mukherjee.

The social movie Jagruti was just another movie with no different story or theme to provide audience with. The movie starts with an honest and hard-working customs officer Vishal ( Pankaj Dheer ). If he is on duty, one thing is for sure, no body can bribe him. He has not taken bribe ever and is known to all that he will not take either. This quality of his was not acceptable to various dons of the city and also to the various members of the parliament of the currently ruling party.

The twist in the story comes when one day, Vishal is kidnapped and killed brutally in the presence of his younger brother Jugnu ( Salman Khan ). Soon Jugnu goes missing and is thus declared dead. Honest man Raghunath ( A K Hangal ) was moved by this and thus complaints to the then Chief Minister, Omiji ( Mohan Joshi ). When Omji starts the inquiry, he comes to know that his own son was selling diluted glucose at the hospitals that resulted in various deaths of the patients.
