Bollywood fantasy movie, Jai Maa Karwa Chauth, directed by Pradeep Pandit and written by Archana Shyam was released in the year 1994. The movie starred Mansi and Meera Madhuri in lead roles while Urmila Bhatt, Master Ankit, Firoz Irani, Bhavana Bhatt, Sudhir Dalvi, Kishore Anand, Deepak Qazir, Ramesh Tiwari and Renuka Singh also played significant characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by the music director trio Anil, Kusum and Arjun while the songs were beautifully croned by Mahendra Kapoor, Suresh Wadkar, Udit Narayan, Kavita Krishnamurthy etc.

The movie starts with a girl named Gauri ( Meera Madhuri ), who is fond of eating. She is living a wealthy lifestyle alongwith her seven brothers and their wives. Gauri come across a guy named Shankar and falls in love with her. She tells about Shankar to her brothers and they all arranges her marraige with him. Soon Shankar and Gauri get married to each other. Shankar brings her to his home. Shankar introduces her to his family which comprises of his father, Sukhiram, mother Janki and a younger sister named Chutki.

After few months, Gauri is asked to perform Karwa Chauth to please Maa Karwa Chauth. Gauri agrees to do so. Her brothers are known to Gauri’s fondness for eating and therefore arranges for a fake moon so that she could eat something. This angers Maa Karwa Chauth and as a result of this Shankar dies. Gauri blames herself for this and pledges that she will bring back Shankar’s life.
