Bollywood movie, Jamai Raja, directed by Kodanda Rami Reddy was released on 19 October 1990. the movie starred Anil Kapoor, Hema Mailini and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles while Shakti Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik were also seen playing important roles in the film. The music of the film was given by famous music director duo Laxmikant Pyarelal while the songs were sung by Amit Kumar Ganguly, Shabbir Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Alka Yagnik. The movie did very well at the box office.

The movie starts with a rich proud lady named Durgeshwari Devi ( Hema Malini ), who likes to rule on every poor person. Even at her home, everybody is scared of her. She has two sons Dheeraj ( Shashi Puri ) and Neeraj ( Anand Balraj ). Her younger daughter Rekha ( Madhuri Dixit ) is a student of a medical college. Raja ( Anil Kapoor ), is a poor guy whose sister Indu ( Divya ) is pregnant from Durgeshwari’s elder son, Dheeraj. Raja pleads Durgeshwari devi to make her sister their daughter-in-law but she refuses straightaway leaving behind angry Raja.

Raja then decides to teach her a lesson. He impresses her daughter, Rekha and fall in love with her. They both get married to each other. Durgeshwari having no other option, accepts Raja as her ‘Jamai raja’. Raja starts staying in her house as her jamai raja. Durgeshwari on the other hand, tries to create hatred in the heart of Rekha against Raja. And in this, she gets help of his brother, DDC ( Anupam Kher ), his assistant BBC ( Satish Kaushik ) and her secretary Pappu ( Shakti Kapoor ).
