Bollywood movie, Jawaani, directed by Ramesh Behl was released in the year 1984. The movie starred Karan Shah and Neelam Kothari in lead roles while Moushami Chatterjee, Anupam Kher, Sharmila Tagore, Navin Nischol, Viju Khote, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Narendra Nath also played important roles in the film. The music of the movie was directed by the well known veteran music director Rahul Dev Burman while the songs were rendered by Amit Kumar Ganguly, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

The movie starts with a young and beautiful girl named Sanam Malhotra ( Neelam Kothari ), who studies ina girl hostel. Her family lives a middle class life in Bombay. But after selling their plot to a builder, they becomes rich. They then also arranges for Sanam to stay with them. Her father, Surendra Malhotra ( Anupam Kher ) and brother, Jatin ( Jatin Malhotra ) becomes snobbish after getting rich. Karan Nath ( Karan Shah ), who belongs to a middle class family, is in love with Sanam. And Sanam too falls for his sincerity and innocence. Karan is arrested by police on the saying of Surendra Malhotra.

Karan and Sanam run away from the life of Surendra and family. Surendra suspects that Karan’s father, Amar Nath ( Navin Nischol ), who is a widower, is having an affair with a woman named Prema Mohan ( Moushami Chatterjee ). Surendra then take help of some goons in locating Karan and Sanam. But once again the lovebirds manage to escape from their trap. Karan then takes smuggling as profession so that he can get rich soon. But Sanam tries to convince him to leave this crime path immediately.
