Yesteryear hit movie, Jewel Thief, written and directed by Vijay Anand was relelased in the year 1967. The movie starred Dev Anand and Vyjayantimala in lead roles while Ashok Kumar and Tanuja were seen in supporting roles. The movie was distributed under the banner of Navketan Films. The evergreen music of the film was given by S. D. Burman and the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohammed Rafi, Bhupinder. The film became a huge box office hit.

The movie starts with Vinay ( Dev Anand), who is living with his family in Bombay and working in a jewellery shop. But he finds himself constantly mistaken for a look-alike person named Amar, who is actually a jewel thief. Police asks Vinay to co-operate with them so that they can catch the real jewel thief. Vnay agrees to work with the police to impersonate Amar. But the real problem occurs when a young beautiful women, Shalini ( Vyajayantimala ) and her brother ( Ashok Kumar ), claims that Vinay is her fiancee.

However, somehow Vinay manage to prove to them that he is indeed Vinay. In order to know more about Amar, he starts spending more time with Shalini. Shalini and Vinay starts developing feeling for each other. In the meantime, vinay’s boss, Vishambher Seth, get robbed by Amar. Vinay alongwith Police tries to trap Amar but he runs away. Vinay too runs after Amar to catch him. But only to find himself embroiled in a hell scheme. Now Vinay has lost his memory and identity and has no way to prove himself innocent.
