Bollywood musical family romantic drama, Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje, directed by Rajaram Vankudre Shantaram and written by Dewan Sarkar was released in the year 1955. The movie starred Gopi Krishna and Sandhya in lead roles while Madan Puri, Bhagwan, Keshavrao date, Nana Palsiker, Mumtaz begum and Manorama also played significant characters in the film. The hit music of the movie was directed by the legendary music director Vasant Desai and the songs were rendered by Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar etc.

Girdhar ( Gopi Krishna ) is the son of the danver maestro Mangal Maharaj ( Keshavrao Date ). His father wants him to participate in the Nateshwar Utsav dance competition. Girdhar is a very good dancer and is determined to do what his father wants him to do. He decides to participate in the competion. But for competing in the competition, he is required to have a female dance partner. Mangal Maharaj brings a female dancer for him but soon revelas that Girdhar needs a much better dance partner.

Mangal Maharaj then appoints a talented dancer and singer named Neela Devi ( Sandhaya ) to dance with Girdhar. Girdhar and Neela starts practicing for the competition and soon both falls in love with each other. When his father revelas about this, he gets upset with it and the realtionship between Girdhar and Neela is affecting their concentration which is clearly seen in their dance performances. What he will do now?
