Bollywood hit movie, Johnny Mera Naam, written and directed by Vijay Anand was released in the year 1970. The movie starred stylish, Dev Anand and beautiful, Hema Malini in lead roles while Pran and Prem Nath also played important characters in the film. The superhit music of the movie was given by Kalyanji- Anandji and all the songs were sung by two reputed bollywood singers, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The movie recieved an overwhelming response from the audiences which resulted in the supersuccess of the film at the box office.

The movie starts with two brothers, Sohan ( Dev Anand ) and Mohan ( Pran ). The two are the sons of a police inspector. Their father gets killed by a goon on the order of his boss, Ranjeet ( Prem Nath ). Mohan, whop was accidently present there, kills the goon in return and run away from there. With the passage of time, both of the brothers grows up in different situations and environments. Mohan is now a goon himself, who is supposed to work on the order of Ranjeet.

On the other hand, Sohan goes on to become a CID officer. He usually solves his cases by taking up different guises. For his new case, he takes the identity of a small time theif, Johnny. He befriends Heera ( Jeevan ) in the jail and plans to run away from there. He also meets a beautiful girl, Rekha ( Hema Malini ) in the gang of the criminals. But he later learns that she is not doing the criminal activities on her will. She is been forced to do so.
