Bollywood movie, Kaagaz Ke Phool, directed by Guru Dutt was released in the year 1959. The movie starred Guru Dutt himself and Waheeda Rehman in lead roles while comedians Mehmood and Johnny Walker alongwith Baby Naaz also played significant characters in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by S.D. Burman and the songs were sung by Geeta Dutt, Mohammed Rafi. The lyrics of the film was written by Kaifi Azmi. The movie also remained in controversy for some time after its release.

The starts with Suresh Sinha ( Guru Dutt ), who is a famous film director. He is married to Bina ( Veena ) but her family wants their divorce as they consider that film making is not the thing to feel proud in their society. He is also got seperated by his daughter Pramila aka Pammi ( Naaz ) as she is sent to a private boarding school by his in-laws. Suresh meets with a beautiful women named Shanti ( Waheeda Rehman ) and ask her to become the heroine of his next film.

Suresh casts her in the role of Paro in his movie Devdas. Very soon Shanti becomes a famous star. As both Suresh and Shanti are lonely in their life, they starts developing interest in each other. Their relationships comes in gossip columns of every newspaper. As a result of this, Suresh’s daughter Pammi faces soem very bad words about her father. Pammi then pleads with Shanti to leave her father. Shanti accepts her saying and that does a negative affect on Suresh. He becomes an alcoholic and in the end dies as a lonely person.
