Kaal was a thriller movie released on April 29, 2005 under the banners of Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment. The movie was directed by Soham Shah and produced by Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan. The lead roles in the movie were played by Ajay Devgan, John Abraham, Vivek Oberoi, Esha Deol and Lara Dutta while there were special appearances by Shahrukh Khan and Malaika Arora. The music of the film was directed by Anand Raj Anand and the songs were sung by Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Richa Sharma and Kunal Ganjawala.

The name linked with the movie Kaal is of famous director Karan Johar who is sharing the post of producer with Shahrukh Khan in this film. Shahrukh Khan also does a popular item number in the beginning of the film though it has nothing to do with the rest of the story of the film. The movie is the debut film of the director Soham Shah who has the credit of assisting Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Verma in the past. The theme of the movie is based on the backdrop of Jim Corbett National Park situated at Uttaranchal.

A wildlife researcher Krish Thapar ( John Abraham ) and his photographer mate Riya ( Esha Deol ) were required to explore the Park for some research work related to a project. There were also few tourists Dev Malhotra ( Vivek Oberoi ) and Ishika ( Lara Dutta ) who were on their holidays and wanted to enjoy the wildlife in the park. Both the group of people started exploring the Park together and strange things start happening when the members of their group started disappearing slowly. They come across Kali Pratap Singh ( Ajay Devgan ) who tells them the real story.
