The action and social movie Kali Basti was released in the year of 1985. The movie was directed by Sudesh Issar and produced by Satish Khanna. The key roles in the movie were enacted by Shatrughan Sinha, Prem Chopra, Reena Roy and Paintal while Vijayendra, Sujit Kumar, Om Parkesh and Dev Kumar were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Laxmikant Kudalkar and Pyarelal while the songs were sung by Suresh Wadkar, Asha Bhosle, Anuradha Paudwal, Mahendra Kapoor and Mohammad Rafi.

The movie Kali Basti was an action and social flick that revolved mostly around a woman named Durga Singh ( Gita Siddharth ). Durga Singh was a widowed woman who lived comfortably with her two children, a son named Karan ( Shatrughan Sinha ) and a daughter named Rakhi ( Rajni Sharma ). The movie takes a turn when a big industrialist named Thakur ( Ram Mohan ) tries to molest her. She was saved by her son Karan who eventually kills him. Durga wanted Karan to escape else the cruel villagers would catch him and hand him to the police officer.

Karan follows what her mother ordered and as a result was separated from his family. He was wandering here and there on the streets but one day was adopted by Peter Pereira ( Om Prakash ) and his wife Mary ( Shammi ) who are both childless and wanted a child. Peter was an alcoholic man and as a result Karan overtook the bad attributes of him. Time passed away and Karan grew up. Karan is now someone feared by both police and underworld.
