Bollywood movie, Kangan, directed by K. B. Tilak was released in the year 1971. The movie starred Sanjeev Kumar and Mala Sinha in lead roles while Ashok Kumar, Mehmood, Mridula Rani, Asit Sen, Sadhana Khote, Aruna Irani and Jeevan also played significant characters in the film. The music of the movie was composed by the well known music director duo Kalyanji-Anandji while the songs were sung by Mohammed Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Khanna etc.

Young and handsome, Sunil aka Sonu is studying medicine in the city. Sunil lives alongwith his mother and is in love with a girl named Shanta ( Mala Sinha ). They both wants to get married soon. But Sunil’s mother does not like Shanta as she is illetrate. She forces Sunil to get married with another girl named Shobha ( Aruna Irani ). But Sunil opposes his mother’s decision and tells him that he will get married with Shanta only and no one else. Sunil ask Shanta to wait for her till he completes his studies.

Sunil completes his studies and returns to his home. He goes to meet Shanta but get shocked to know that she is now married to a wealthy guy named Lakshmipati ( Ashok Kumar ), who is musch older that Shanta. Sunil gets heartbroken by knowing this fact. Sunil then decides to confront Shanta for why she betrayed him?
