Bollywood suspense thriller, Kanoon, directed by B. R. Chopr and written by Akhtar Ul Iman was released in the year 1960. The movie starred Rajendra Kumar and Nanda in lead roles while Ashok Kumar, Mehmood, Shashikala, Jeevan, Jagdish Raj, Manmohan Krishna and Nana Palsikar also played important roles in the film. Tyhe melodious music of the movie was composed by the well knwon music director Salil Chaudhary while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Naushad, Lata Mangeshkar etc.

The movie starts with a young advocate Kailash Khanna ( Rajednra Kumar ). He is in love with a beautifufl girl named Meena Prasad ( Nanda ) and planning to get married with her soon. Meena is the daughter of Judge Badri Prasad ( Ashok Kumar ). Badri Prasad is also happy with the relationship of Kailash and Meena and has given his permission for their marriage. But the life of three gets upturned when Kialash witnesses a murder of a monelender by none other than his would be father-in-law, Badri Prasad.

However, he remains silent on this issue. As a result of this a burgler named Kaalia ( Nana Palsiker ) is arrested by police in the charge of that murder. Kalidas informs the court that he has already been sentenced to prison for the same crime ten years ago. What will happen now? What Kailash will do?
