The romantic movie Kareeb was released on July 17, 1998 under the banner of Vinod Chopra Prod. The movie was directed and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The key roles in the movie were played by Bobby Deol, Abhay Chopra, Neha and Saurabh while the presence of Moushmi Chatterjee and Johny Lever supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Anu Malik and the songs were sung by Kumar Sanu, Sanjeevani, Roop Kumar Rathod, Jaspinder Narula and Abhijeet.

The movie Kareeb was a romantic movie and is also the debut movie of the newcomer Neha. The film holds more importance to her and for the lead actor Bobby Deol for whom, though, it is not his first movie but is an important step in setting his career. The movie was also directed by the famous director Vidhu Vinod Chopra who has directed several hit movies earlier. The movie is around a mischievous guy Birju ( Bobby ) who has a dumb elder brother, a money minded father, a mother and a bhabhi.

Neha is the daughter of a school teacher ( Moushimi Chatterjee ). Birju was smitten by her beauty on the first sight and gradually both fell in love with each other. The problem to the perfect story arise when Birju’s father ( Saurabh ) who is a money minded person wanted money from the bride. Neha’s mother had nothing with her so Birju and his friend does some dishonest activity and gets caught on the night of the wedding only. The couple finally gets together after some initial jolts.
