The social movie Karnama was released in the year 1990. The movie was directed as well as produced by Ranjit. The top roles in the movie were played by Vinod Khanna, Iftekhar, Kimi Katkar and Farha while the presence of Nirupa Roy, Satyen Kappu and Amrish Puri supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Ravindra Jain and the songs were sung by Hemlata, Asha Bhosle, Sushil Kumar, Shabbir Kumar, Dilraj Kaur and Abhijeet. The lyrics of the film were also given by Ravindra Jain.

The movie Karnama was a social cum action movie that displays the day to day lives of people in the modern cities. The movie was directed by the famous actor turned director Ranjit who had also acted in various movies like Dost Aur Dushman, Khote Sikkey, Gumrah and Inspector Eagle. Ranjit debuted with the movie Purnima released in 1938 that was directed by Balwant Bhatt and featured Badri Prasad and Noor Jahan along with Ranjit in the lead roles.

The male lead in the film was played by Vinod Khanna who debuted in 1969 with the movie Man Ka Meet. Other hits of him include Purab Aur Pashcim, Dost Aur Dushman, Kunwara Baap, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and Eena Meena Deeka among the others. The movie Karnama was a usual flick that didn’t do well in the box office but its release was surely noticed. Most of the songs of the movie were also sung by the top singer Asha Bhosle.
