Bollywood movie, Karz, directed by Subhash Ghai was released on 11 June 1980. The movie starred Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim and Simi Garewal in lead roles while Pran and Premnath also played an important role in the movie. The superhit music of the film was given by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Laxmikant-Pyarelal won a Filmfare Best Music Director Award for this film. A remake titled Karzzzz is also in production which will star singer turned actor Himesh Reshammiya and Urmila Matondkar in lead.

The movie starts with Shanta Prasad’s son Ravi Verma ( Rajkiran ) and his girlfriend Kamini ( Simi Garewal ). Kamini is actually recruited by evil don Sir Judah, who is mute, for seducing and marrying Ravi, so that he can take over Ravi’s estate and business umpire. Kamini and Ravi get married very soon. While returning home Kamini brutally murders Ravi in front of the small statue of the goddess Kali. Kamini then throws out Ravi’s mother, Ranimaa ( Durga Khote), and sister Jyoti ( Abha Dhulia ) from the house.

Now movie moves forward to 25 years later where Ravi Verma is reborn as a successful singer named Monty ( Rishi Kapoor ). Monty suffers from hallucinations and nightmares usually while playing a familiar tune ( which was played by Ravi verma during his way to home alongwith Kamini ). The psychiatrist advises Monty for a vacation. Monty travels around Ooty to find a beautiful girl Tina ( Tina Munim ). Tina’s uncle Kabira ( Pran ) is a small time crook, who was present at the Verma estate the night of Ravi Verma’s murder. Monty came to know about his previous life as Ravi Verma and how Kamini brutally killed him.

To uncover the truth in front of all people, he decides to get close to Kamini. Kabira helps him in that. Monty also finds Mrs. Shanta Prasad Verma and her daughter Jyoti. Mrs. Shanta Prasad Verma exclaims Ravi but nobody believes. Monty plasy his last trick and performs at a function on the opening of the Ravi Verma school. He renders the song which he sang for Kamini while driving to his home in his previous birth. Kamini runs from the event and tries to run over Monty and kill him like she did in past. But this time she accidentally drives off the mountain and dies.
