Kasam was a romantic cum action movie that was released on April 15, 1988. The movie was directed by Umesh Mehra and produced by Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar. The key roles in the movie were played by Anil Kapoor, Aruna Irani, Poonam Dhillon and Pran while the roles of Johny Lever, Gulshan Grover, Kader Khan and Amrit Pal were also important. The music of the film was directed by Bappi Lahiri while the songs were sung by Mahendra Kapoor, Shabbir Kumar, Chandrani Mukherjee and Uttara Kelkar.

The movie Kasam was filled with the elements of romance and action at regular intervals. The story of the movie revolves mostly around Mangal Singh ( Pran ) who is the head of a village that gets its revenue by selling cocaine. Soon a Police Inspector named Kisna ( Anil Kapoor ) finds about this and thus goes to live with the villagers in the village to try and talk them out of dealing with drugs. He comes across and falls in love with Mangal’s daughter, Savi ( Poonam Dhillon ), and then wanted to marry her.

At the right time, Kisna asks Mangal and the villagers to surrender the drugs to the police. When they agree to do so, the police are summoned. But the twist in the story comes when the villagers were shot down and many of whom were killed, including Mangal himself, who is crippled for life. Villagers started hating Kisna and then throw him out. The police arrest Kisna, he is tried in Court and sentenced to several years in jail. Seven years later, Kisna escapes from prison and returns to the village.
