Bollywood movie, Kasauti, directed by Arvind Sen and written by Satish Bhatnagar was released on August 5, 1974. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in lead roles while Pran, Ramesh Deo, Sulochana Latkar, Sonia Sahni, Satyendra Kapoor, Abhi Bhattacharya, Bipin Gupt and Mohan Chotti also played important roles in the film. The meldious msuic of the movie was directed by none other than the veteran music director duo Kalyanji-Anandji while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle etc.

The movie starts with two good friends, Neeta ( Sonia Sahni ) and Sapna ( Hema Malini ). Neeta is married to a physically handicapped guy ( Bharat Bhushan ). As there is no source of income for Neeta and her husband to make a living in the city, Neeta becomes a prostitute. Sapna is molested by a bad guy named Heera ( Ramesh Deo ) but a taxi-driver named Amitabh Sharma ( Amitabh Bachchan ) comes to her rescue. Sapna falls in love with Amitabh and Amitabh too starts loving her. They both decides to get married soon. But before that could happen, Sapna is arrested by police in the charge of assualting her foster father, Pramod ( Satyendra Kapoor ).

Sapna remains silent in the court and doesn’t even tries to prove herself innocent. As a result of this, she is sentenced to jail for six months. After getting released form the jail, she is enquired by Amitabh that her mother has been sentenced to jail for killing Pramod. Amitabh and Sapna then plans to get amrried but this time Amitabh’s father refuse to give permission to his son for marrying a girl who has just completed her prison time. Sapna then relocates to calcutta and soon becomes a famous stage actress. What will happen now?
