The romantic thriller Kasoor was released on February 2, 2001 under the banner of Vishesh Films. The movie was directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by Mukesh Bhatt. The key roles in the movie were played by Aftab Shivdasani, Apoorva Agnihotri, Lisa Ray and Ashutosh Rana while the presence of Irrfan Khan and Vishwajeet Pradhan supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Nadeem Saifee and Shravan Kumar while the songs were sung by Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu.

Kasoor was a refreshing murder mystery that takes a break from the usual Bollywood love stories. The movie marks the debut of gorgeous Lisa Ray and features the Mast lad Aftab in his second role. The movie directed by Vikram Bhatt is also a thriller like his previous film Ghulam. The movie was inspired from Hollywood flick The Jagged Edge. The movie is about an intelligent lawyer and woman of today Simran Bhargav ( Lisa Ray ) who takes the case of business tycoon Shekhar Saxena ( Aftab Shivdasani ).

Shekhar is facing the charge of brutally murdering his wife Priti Saxena ( Divya Dutta ), though everyone believes him doing so. Even the police officer ( Ashutosh Rana ) and the public prosecutor Nitin Mehta ( Irfan Khan ) believes that he is a criminal but don’t have any evidene to prove their statement. Simran believes that he is innocent and thus fears more as once she convicted an innocent who later committed suicide. Thus along with fighting for Shekhar she will have to fight her demons of the past.
