Balraj Sahni and Vyjayanthimala starrer bollywood family drama, Kath Putli, was released in the year 1957. The movie was directed by Nitin Bose and written by Chandrakant. The other starcast of the movie includes Kamala Kumari, Shyam Kumar, Jawahar Kaul, C. S. Dunbey, Laxman rao, Agha, Sheila Kashmiri and Jagat pal in important characters. The evergreen music of the movie was given by none other than the hit veteran music director duo Shankar Jaikishen while the songs were rendered by Mukesh, Subir Sen and Lata Mangeshkar.

The movie starts with a beautiful girl named Pushpa ( Vyjayanthimala ) who belongs to a poor family. She is a very good singer and dancer. He makes her living by assisting a puppeteer named Shivraj ( Jawahar Kaul ) in his stage performances with his puppet acts. But destiny plays its game and Shivraj meets with a severe accident. He ends up loosing his puppets in the accident and also get hospitalized. Pushpa becomes workless once again. She then learns about a guy named Loknath ( Balraj Sahni ) who arranges stage shows.

Pushpa goes to meet him and Lokraj get impressed with the singing and dancing talent of Pushpa. Lokraj decides to give her a chance to perform on the stage. The shows becomes a hit and Pushpa becomes a well known singer and dancer. Lokraj then plans to make Pushpa a movie star. Pushpa also agrees to become an actress. Now Pushpa is heading towards a wealthy glamorous life leaving behind her simple life.
