Bollywood romantic family drama, Kathputli, directed by Brij was released in the year 1971. The movie starred Jeetendra and Mumtaz in lead roles while Helen, Leela Mishra, Jalal Agha, Malika and Manmohan also played important roles in the film. The melodious evergreen music of the movie was directed by none other than well known veteran music director duo Kalyanji-Anandji while the songs were crooned by Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

The movie starts with a guy named Vishal ( Jeetendra ) who grows up in an orphange because his parents abandoned him just after his birth. Vishal studies hard and years later becomes a professor by profession. He meets with a beautiful girl named Nisha ( Mumtaz ) and falls in love with her. Nisha too gets attracted towards him. Soon they both get married with each other. Jeetendra continues to works as professor in a college while Nisha too gets employed as a secretary of the owner of a firm.

One day while driving to their home, Vishal and Nisha meets with a severe accident and Vishal ends up getting hospitilized with some very serious injuries. Dcotor ask Nisha to arrange for a huge amount of money so that he can perform the surgery to Vishal’s injuries. Nisha somehow arranges the money needed and Vishal recovers after the surgery. Vishal and Nisha then relocate to Delhi where Vishal reveals a dirty truth about Nisha.
