Bollywood evergreen hit movie, Kati Patang, directed by Shakti Samanta was released in the year 1970. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh in lead roles while Bindu, Prem Chopra and Nasir Hussain played supporting roles in the movie. The movie was distributed under the banner of Shakti Films. The superhit music of the film was given by R.D. Burman and the songs were sung by Mukesh, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle. The film is inspired by Cornell Woolrich’s I Married a Dead Man. The movie went on to became a huge box office success. Asha Parekh won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her superb act in the role of a widow in the film.

The movie starts with beautiful Madhavi ( Asha Parekh ), who is living with her maternal uncle. Her gaurdian arranges her marriage with someone she does not know. Therefore she decides to run away with her lover, Kailash ( Prem Chopra ). But her dremas get shattered when she find her lover in bed with another woman, Shabnam ( Bindu ). When she returns to her home, she find her uncle dead because of a heart attack. She runs away from the place.

She meets with a friend at the railway station. Her friend, Poonam, is a widow and travelling alongwith her child to her in-laws. But unfortunately the train in which the three are travelling meets with an accident. Madhavi’s widow friends dies instantly leaving behind her child with Madhavi. Madhavi decides to take the identity of Poonam and becomes the mother of that child. She meets with a handsome guy, Kamal Sinha ( Rajesh Khanna ) after arriving to Poonam’s in-laws place. Later she finds out that Kamal is the guy with whom her uncle had arranged her marriage.
