The family drama Kishen Kanhaiya was released March 9, 1990. The movie was directed as well as produced by Rakesh Roshan. The main roles in the movie were played by Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shirodkar, Madhuri Dixit and Bindu while the roles of Ranjeet, Amrish Puri, Kader Khan, Johny Lever and Shreeram Lagoo were equally important. The music of the film was directed by Rajesh Roshan and the songs were sung by Amit Kumar, Mohammad Aziz, Nitin Mukesh, Manhar Udhas, Sadhana Sargam, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.

Kishen Kanhaiya was a hit movie of its time and dealt with the day today life of the people. The movie featured the double role of the actor Anil Kapoor. The story of the movie revolves around Leela ( Shobha Khote ) and Bholaram ( Sujit Kumar ) who are childless couple. One day Leela assisted Sunderdas’ wife to give birth to twin boys. She decides to take one child with her and tell Sunderdas’ wife that she has given birth to one child only. Sunderdas’ wife passes away without seeing the face of the child.

Leela and Bholaram bring up Kanhaiya ( Anil Kapoor ), while Sunderdas attempts to bring up his child Kishen ( Anil Kapoor ). Sunderdas ( Shreeram Lagoo ) marries Kamini ( Bindu ) to take care of his child, who comes along with her brother, Ghendamal ( Amrish Puri ). Kamini had a illegitimate child named Ramesh from another man. On knowing this, Sunderdas gets shocked and attacked as a result of which he gets paralyzed. Kishen is brought up by Kamini and is kept illiterate.
