Bollywood family drama, Koshish, written and directed by Gulzar was released in the year 1972. The movie starred Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri in lead roles while Om Shivpuri, Dina Pathak, Seema Deo, Asrani, Kamaldeep and Nitin Sethi also played important characters in the film. The hit music of the film was directed by the veteran music director Madan Mohan while the songs were crooned by Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Sushma Shrestha etc.

The movie starts with deaf and dumb Haricharan ( Sanjeev Kumar ) who delievers newspaperon his bicycle. He meets with another equally deaf and dumb, Aart ( Jaya Bhaduri ) and falls in love with her. They get married to each other. Soon Aarti gives brith to a child, who is fortunately normal and not like his parents. But Aarti’s brother Kanu’s ( Asrani ) irresponbility results in the death of their child. Both Hari and Aarti gets devastated with this incident and adding to it his bicycle is also robbed by someone.

Hari is forced to find some other means of employment to survive. He starts polishing the shoes of the people. Aarti gives birth another child and names him Amit ( Amit Prakash ), who is also not deaf and dumb like his parents. Hari and Aarti works very hard to provide good education to Amit. Amit too is determined to fulfill his parents dream and studies brilliantly. But still there are many turns to come in the life of Hari and Aarti.
