Bollywood yesteryear hit patriotic movie, Kranti, directed by Manoj Kumar and written by Javed Akhtar was released on February 3, 1981. The movie starred Dilip Kumar, Manoj Kumar and Hema Malini in lead roles while Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughna Sinha, Parveen Babi, Sarika, Prem Chopra, Pradeep Kumar, Nirupa Roy, Dheeraj Kumar, Madan puri and Shashikala also played important roles in the film. The melodious hit music of the film was given by the hit music director jodi of Laxmikant-Pyarelal while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna dey, Mahendra kapoor and Shailendra Singh.

Sanga ( Dilip Kumar ) is an honest employee of Raja Laxman Singh, who rules in the Ramgarh. Laxman singh allows Britishers to use the port for trading purpose. Sanga finds out that britishers are actually bringing the ammunition in India. He goes to tell this to Raja Laxman Singh only to find him dead. Corrupt employee, Shambhu Singh ( Prem Chopra ), frames Sanga in the murder of Laxman Singh. Sanga is sentenced to death but he somehow manage to escape from there. He collects the honest employees of Laxman Singh and forms a group of revolutionaries. He renames himself as Kranti, who has only one motto of his life, just to drive britishers out of India.

Sanga’s wife also manage to escape from the custody of Shambhu singh. But in the process of saving her sons, she get speerated from them. Sanga’s elder son, Bharat ( Manoj Kumar ) also becomes a revolutionary and names himself Kranti while his second son, Shakti ( Shashi Kapoor ), who was adopted by Charumati ( Shashikala ), becomes the well wisher of Britishers. How the family reunites and how they make britishers leave the country is the rest of the story.
