Bollywood movie, Lahu Ke Do Rang, directed by well known director Mahesh Bhatt was released on September 28, 1979. The movie starred Vinod Khanna and Shabana Azmi in lead roles while Danny Denzongpa, Ranjeet, Helen, Mac Mohan, Prema Narayan and Indrani Mukherjee also played important characters in the film. The music of the film was given by none other than famous music director Bappi Lahiri while the songs were rendered by Mohammed rafi, K. J. Yesudas, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal and Sulakshana Pandit.

The movie starts with Gopi Lathuria ( Vinod Khanna ), who is a freedom fighter. One night a women named Suzy ( Helen ) saves him from the police and they both spends the whole night with each other. Gopi stays with her for security reasons and when he decides to leave her house, she tells him about her pregnancy. Gopi tells her that he is already married and will try to convince his wife about her. He made promise to her that he will return soon to take her alongwith him. But Gopi never returns as he is killed by britishers with the help of his friend Shankar Lathuria ( Ranjeet ).

Years later, Gopi’s legal wife’s son, Raj Singh ( Vinod Khanna ) becomes a police inspector. On the other hand, Suzy’s son Suraj ( Danny Denzongpa ) becomes a criminal and enters the gang of Shankar Lathuria or Devi Dayal. Shankar wants the gold which was looted by Gopi in the past. And in searching that gold, Suraj helps him. Raj is after Shankar and is on the secret mission of investing about a girl named Roma 9 Shabana Azmi ), who works for Shankar lathuria.
