Bollywood movie, Lakshya, directed by Farhan Akhtar was released on 18 June 2004. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in lead roles while Boman Irani and Om Puri also played a supoorting role in the film. The movie was distributed under the banner of Excel Entertainment. The music of the film was given by the famous trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and the songs were sung by Udit Narayan, Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Hariharan, Sadhna Sargam, Shankar Mahadevan, Kunal Ganjawala, Sonu Nigam etc. The movie was a box office failure but won several acclaims from critics.

The movie starts with young Karan Shergil ( Hrithik Roshan ), who is totally clueless about his goal in mind. He has no plans for his future. He has no ambition or purpose in his life except marrying his girfriend Romila Dutta aka Romi ( Preity Zinta ). Karan’s father, Mr. Shergill ( Boman Irani ) is a successful businessman. Romi tells Karan to that he needs to find a goal in life. Finally, Karan alongwith one of his friend plans to join the Indian Military Academy. He applies for that and get selected.

But after spending few days in IMA, he leaves the academy without permission and runs away to his home. When Romi comes to know about this, she decides to call off their relationship. Now Karan becomes determined to returns to the IMA. He completes his training there and becomes a disciplined cadet officer. Lt. Karan is posted to the 3rd Batalion of the Punjab Regiment, commanded by Col. Sunil Damle ( Amitabh Bachchan ).
