Bollywood action thriller movie, Lal Salaam, directed by Gaganvihari Borate and written by Suresh Dwadeshiwar was released on May 3, 2002. The movie starred Sharad Kapoor and Nandita Das in lead roles while Vijay raaz, Sayaji Shinde, Rajpal yadav, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Makrand Deshpande, Akhilendra Mishra and Jyoti also played important roles in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by the music director s Kridyanath Mangeshkar and Uday mazumdar in collaboration while the songs were crooned by Roop Kumar Rathod, Lata Mangeshkar, Ravindra Sathe etc.

The movie starts with Kanna ( Sharad Kapoor ), who is aiming to be doctor and is presently doing the final year of MBBS. Rupi ( Nandita Das ) is his childhood friend and also fiancee. But both are of totally different nature. Kanna is a peace minded person while Rupi is a typical agressive trible girl. Kanna’s brother, Ghisu ( Vijay Raaz ) is illiterate and get attracted towards Naxalites because of his aggresive nature. Kanna tries to convince Ghisu that the path he has choosen is not right and he should not be with Naxalites anymore. Kanna then goes to city to complete his studies.

Ghisu becomes a Naxalite. However, Rupi tries to stop him from becoming a naxalite but fails miserably. Now police is after Ghisu and in the process of catching him, they torture the villagers. Suddenly Rupi disappears from the village. Nobody knows what happened to her and where she is right now. Kanna returns to village only to find that both Ghisu and Rupi are not in the village anymore. Later he get shocked to reveal that Rupi is now also a naxalite as Ghisu.
