Lava was a family drama movie released on 18 January 1985. The movie was directed by Ravindra Peepat while produced by Balbir Kaur. The star cast included Raj Babbar, Dimple Kapadia and Rajiv Kapoor while Asha Parekh, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Madan Puri, and Rajendra Nath played the supporting roles. Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar  and Asha Bhosle gave the music. The music was promoted by Saregama-HMV.The lyrics were given by Anand Bakshi. R D Burman was the music director.

Amar ( Rajiv Kapoor ), a poor and unemployed fellow living with his widowed mother ( Asha Parekh ). Amar does not attempt to search for a work and mostly passes his time with his girlfriend, Rinku Dayal ( Dimple Kapadia ).When his mother comes to know about his girlfriend through the letters he had been writing to her, she asks him to get married to Rinku. She also informs Rinku that Amar is destined to lose his life under water and she must keep him away from all water sources, as he did not know swimming also.

Few days later, Amar accidently falls into a river, is dragged through a waterfall, and is thought to be dead. Her shocked and desolated mother loses her mental stability and hopes that his son would return. After about six months, Amar returns with her mother and desires to meet his wife, Rinku. However, his mom tells him that after his news of drowning, Rinku married her dad’s boss, Ajit Verma ( Raj Babbar ). The appalled Amar tries to find out why his wife betrayed him and chose to marry a wealthy person, Ajit .It is here he detects that his drowning was not an accident but he was a victim of conspiracy against him.
