Dilip Kumar and Vyajayanthimala starrer musical family drama, Leader, was released in the year 1964. The movie was directed by Ram Mukherjee and written by Harish Mehra. The other starcast of the movie includes Jankidas, nasir Hussain, Jayant, Leela Mishra, D. K. Sapru and Motilal in important characters. The hit evergreen melodious music of the movie was directed by the legendary music director Naushad while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

The movie starts with a guy named Vijay Khanna ( Dilip Kumar ), who has just completed his law studies. He becomes the publisher of a newspaper, Leader. He is aiming to be a known relolutionary. Meanwhile he come across a beautiful princess named Sunita ( Vyajayanthimala ) and gets attracted towards her. Sunita is the princess of a Shah garh and is the only daughter of King ( D. K. Sapru ). Sunita too get attracted towards Vijay. Vijay then masquerades as the son of an industrialist.

Sunita believes that Vijay is indeed the son of a welathy industrialist. Soon they both falls in love with each other and decides to get married. But it is then, She reveals that Vijay is wanted by the police as he has murdered one of the leading politician of the India. Vijay tries to convince her about him but she refuse to hear anything from him. She even tries to get Vijay arrested by police.
