The social drama movie Lovesongs -Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow was released on March 28, 2008 and was produced by Sunil Doshi. The movie included actors in the lead role as Jaya Bachchan, Mallika Sarabai, Om Puri, Rajit Kapoor and Neil Bhoopalam. The other roles were played by Shahana Chatterjee, Prithviraj Choudhury and Doel Basu. The music of the movie has been directed by the female maestro Usha Uthup and the singers of the film are Usha Uthup, Jojo Mukherjee, Chanelle, Shane Hyrapiet and Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta.
The movie Lovesongs is a movie in English and displays that there are certain circumstances in the lives of people which can change their ordinary lives into some extra ordinary situation. What people need is the love that can make their life happy, give them new hopes and can certainly make their tomorrow better. The story of the movie is about Mridula Chatterjee ( Jaya Bachchan ) who is a widow and runs a NGO for people with disabilities in Kolkata. She is visited by her grandson Rohan ( Prithviraj Choudhury ) on his vacations who is presently studying in a Law school in Bangalore.
Mridula brought her grandson independently and without anyone’s help. Rohan asked her about her life story. She told him the memories of her university days, of poetry and idealism that had been confined within her for quite a long time now. She was in love with Aftaab Jaffrey ( Om Puri ) but the two can’t unite due to communal differences. So she gets arranged married and her husband dies soon after the marriage when she was pregnant. Her daughter Palaash ( Shahana Chatterjee ) decided to become a singer at a night club and this raised differences between Mridula and her. Mridula later finds out that Aftaab Jaffrey got married to a lady named Rabea ( Mallika Sarabai ). Rohan tells the complete story to his girlfriend Tara ( Doel Basu ).
