Bollywood family, drama, Maa Aur Mamta, directed by Asit Sen and written by Mohan Bali was released on April 14, 1970. The movie starred Jeetendra and Mumtaz in lead roles while Ashok Kumar, Nutan Behl, Sujit Kumar, Leela Mishra, Nirupa Roy, Birbal, Rehman and KeshtoMukherjee also played significant characters in the film. The melodious hit music of the movie was directed by the well known veteran music director duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Hemlata.

Father Henry ( Rehman ) is the priest of a church. He give a newly born infant to unmarried Maya ( Nutan ). Maya is being asked about the child by villagers and when she fails to give any proper answer, she is thrown out of the vilaage alongwith the child. She then runs away to Bombay and tries to relocate there. She is helped by a kind-hearted muslim driver, Jayant ( Jayant ). Jayant arranges for her to stay in a house.

Maya then starts leading a new and fresh life in the city. She starts working on her own so that she does not have to live like a burden on anyone. Years later, her child grows up to be a handsome guy named Ram ( Jeetendra ). Ram is in love with a beautiful girl named Mary ( Mumtaz ) and wants to get married with her. But the problem arises when he is been asked to tell the name of his biological father.
