The action movie Maha Guru was released on April 26, 1985. The movie was directed by S S Ravichandra and produced by C N Chandra and U S N Babu. The actors in the lead roles were Rajinikanth, Shafi Inamdaar, Meenakshi and Rakesh Roshan while the important roles were played by Gulshan Grover, Jeetendra, Kader Khan, Shobha Khote and Nirupa Roy. The music of the film was directed by Bappi Lahiri while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle.

The movie Maha Guru was an action cum social flick that revolved mostly around a man named Naag Raj Darbari ( Kader Khan ) and his friend Shyam Kumar Talwari ( Shafi Inamdaar ) who currently rule a small community in India with authority. The movie takes a turn when a former military officer Subhash ( Rakesh Roshan ) comes home to meet the mother and sister but was thrilled to see the living conditions of the people in the community. He thus decides to do anything to improve the lifestyle of the people.

But whatever Subhash does was not liked by Darbari and Talwari and thus got in their bad books. To eliminate him from their path they engaged a man named Mahaguru ( Rajinikanth ) to fight and remove Subhash. Mahaguru confronts Subhash, and severely beats him up, resulting in Subhash being crippled for life. But Mahaguru also protects Subhash’s sister from some local gangsters who were molesting her.  Darbari and Talwari abducts Subhash and asks Mahaguru to deal with him.
