The social film Main Aur Mera Hathi was released on December 18, 1981. The key roles in the movie were enacted by Mithun Chakraborty, Shakti Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon and Keshto Mukherjee while Mahendra Sandhu, Suresh Oberoi, Sharat Saxena and Satyen Kappu were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Anandji and Kalyanji Veerji while the songs were sung by Amit Kumar Ganguly, Kishore Kumar Ganguly, Usha Mangeshkar and Lata Mangeshkar.

The movie Main Aur Mera Hathi was a social film that was liked by many people. The story of the movie revolved mostly around a man named Ram ( Mithun Chakraborty ). The movie starts when Ram was wrongly accused of charges and thus was falsely imprisoned for the crime he never committed. This was due to the false charges laid on him by another man named Teja ( Suresh Oberoi ). The movie takes a turn when the accused Ram finishes his tenure and leaves the prison.

On being released from the prison ram changes his name to Raj and also gets employed by Teja. Teja discovers that Ram was in love with a girl named Julie ( Poonam Dhillon ) and often goes to meet her. He also finds that she does not know any man by the name of Ram but she was shown the photograph of him, she identifies him as none other than Raj. Teja again gets him imprisoned for the charges of fraud. But this time it was only an elephant which can get him released.
