Makdee was a social movie released on November 22, 2002 under the banner of Percept Picture Company. The movie was written, directed and produced by Vishal Bharadwaj. The actors in the lead roles were Shweta Prasad, Makrand Deshpande, Shabana Azmi and Daya Shanker Pandey while Aalap Mazgaonkar and Vineet Kumar also played the important roles. The music of the film was directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and the songs were sung by Upagna and Shweta Prasad.

Makdee was directed by music composer turned director Vishal Bhardwaj for whom it was his first film at direction. Vishal Bhardwaj has given music for several films in past and is famous for movies like Satya and Maachis, and Makdee is his attempt to enhance his creative skills. The story of the movie revolves mostly around a young girl Chunni ( Shweta Prasad ) in the village. She fools the people around with her similar looking twin sister Munni. Her best friend is Muggale Azam ( Aalap Mazgaonkar ).

There was a house in the village feared by everyone as it was believed that the house was haunted by a witch called Makdee ( Shabana Azmi ). The myth with the house is that who ever enters the house either never returns or return as an animal. This is why no body tries to enter the house. When Chunni’s pranks goes out of control, one day, her sister Munni enters the house and gets transformed into a hen. Chunni asks help but nobody believes her except the cops Ghanta and Banta. Chunni also enters the house in search of her sister.
